Maybe I should be ashamed of today’s example, but I just couldn’t resist sharing 🙂
The title of today’s lesson is something we’ve all heard from one parent or another – “It’s not what you say, it’s how you say it.”
We’ve all said something, but spoke it in a way that indicated a completely different meaning. The tone, pitching, intensity, texture, and way we phrase what we’re saying can completely change it’s meaning in speech, and naturally that carries over into singing.
To better illustrate this, I want you to check out a video I stumbled upon yesterday entitled “Jamie Foxx Sings Unsexy Words Sexily.”
What he did was sing dull, uninspiring words in a more exciting and sexy way. How effective was he? Just listen to the crowds reaction (isn’t that what it’s really all about… knowing your audience and entertaining them?).
Anyway, I hope you found today’s lesson as entertaining as I did. Oh, and btw, I’m working on my next video tip and will be posting it in the next week or so, so be sure and keep an eye out on my facebook or twitter.
See ya soon!
